All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of January, 2009 increased by 1 point and stood at 148 (one hundred and fortyeight).

During January, 2009, the index recorded maximum increase of 4 points each in Nagpur, Mariani-Jorhat and Lucknow centres, 3 points each in Hyderabad, Salem and Goa centres, 2 points in 22 centres and 1 point in 18 centres. The index recorded decrease of 2 points each in Tripura, Labac-Silcher and Chhindwara centres and 1 point in 11 centres, while in the remaining 18 centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 4 points in Nagpur centre is mainly due to House Rent Index, Rice, Sugar, and Telephone Charges etc., in Mariani-Jorhat centre this increase is due to Wheat Atta, Goat Meat, Fish Fresh, Firewood, Housing Index, Hair Oil, Toilet Soap and Washing Soap etc., while in Lucknow centre it is mainly due to Rice, Goat Meat, Onion, Sugar, Tea Leaf, Housing Index, Washing Soap, Detergent Powder and Primary School Fee, etc. The increase of 3 points in Hyderabad, Salem and Goa centres is due to increase in Housing Index and increase in the prices of Rice, Fish Fresh, Onion and Tea Leaf etc. The decrease of 2 points in Tripura centre is mainly due to Rice, Fish Fresh and Vegetable Items. In Labac-Silcher centre it is due to Mustard Oil, Fish Fresh and Vegetable Items etc., while in Chhindwara centre it is due to Rice, Wheat, Soyabeen Oil and Vegetable Items etc.
