The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers
All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of May, 2009 increased by 1 point and stood at 151 (one hundred and fifty one).
During May, 2009, the index recorded maximum increase of 5 points each in Warangal, Belgaum and Madurai centres, 4 points each in Jharia, Godavarikhani, Ernakulam, Mariani Jorhat, Giridih and Labac-Silcher centres, 3 points in 14 centres, 2 points in 19 centres and 1 point in 17 centres. The index recorded a decrease of 2 points in Quilon centre, 1 point each in Ajmer, Jalandhar, Mumbai and Lucknow centres and while in the remaining 14 centres the index remained stationary.
The maximum increase of 5 points in Warangal, Belgaum and Madurai centres is mainly due to increase in the prices of Rice, Groundnut Oil, Poultry, Vegetable & Fruit items etc. The increase of 4 points each in Jharia, Godavarikhani, Ernakulam, Mariani Jorhat, Giridih and Labac-Silcher Centres is mainly due to Rice, Arhar Dal, Mustard Oil, Poultry, Fish Fresh, Vegetable and Fruit items, Sugar, Tea Leaf etc. The decrease of 2 points in Quilon center is mainly due to decrease in the prices of Fish Fresh while the decrease of 1 point in Ajmer, Jalandhar, Mumbai and Lucknow centres is on account of decrease in the prices of Vegetable and Fruit items.

The point to point rate of inflation for the month of May, 2009 is 8.63% as compared to 8.70% in April, 2009.
