Expert Comm by Rangarajan recommends legal right to food to 41 pc of population
An expert committee headed by Dr C Rangarajan has opined that in view of the current level of food grain production in the country, it may not be feasible to extend legal entitlements to subsidised food grains as per the recommendations of the National Advisory Council.
The expert council recommended right to food to only needy people and others to be helped with food grains under an executive order based on availability of food grains.
The committe on national food security bill recommended right to food to 41 percent of the total poputation of the country.
Rangarajan Committee on Food Bill further favours assured delivery of wheat at Rs 2/kg and rice at Rs 3/kg to needy households and for the rest depending on availability of foodgrains.
