Odisha hikes 6% Dearness Allowance for employees, also enhanced certain retirment benefits

The Orissa government on Wednesday announced to increase dearness allowance (DA) from 45 per cent to 51 per cent. The 6 per cent DA hike would be effective from January this year.

The decision was announced by chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Last month, Centre had increased 6 per cent DA for Central government employees. With this, over 50 lakh government employees were benefited. In November last year, the state government had announced a hike in 5 per cent DA for its employees.

The increased DA, which will be effective from January 1, is provided to government staff and pensioners to compensate them for rising prices. The relief came amid soaring food prices, as inflation has been ruling above 9 per cent.
