Chennai High Court holiday on poll day for local body elections, 2011

The Chennai High Court has declared 17th October as holiday on account of the local body elections. Already, the polling days of 17th and 19th October has been declared as public holidays, in those areas wherever such poll takes place by the Tamil Nadu Government. Following the order, the Chennai High Court and as well as Madurai High Court has declared on 17.10.2011 as holiday.

The order said, the employees, those who are all willing to vote on 19.10.2011, It has also been decided to permit mustering at 12 noon on 19.10.2011 and their identity card and voters slip should be shown to management staff otherwise, it will be treated as casual leave.

As we all are aware tha the Tamilnadu Government has declared public holiday on 17th and 19th October, 2011 under Negotiable Istruments Act, 1881. Accordingly, the first phase of election is on Monday, the 17th October, 2011 and the 2nd phase of election is on Wednesday, the 19th October, 2011. All Government offices including industrial establishments of the Government and Government controlled bodies and all educational institutions will remain closed on 17.10.2011 in the areas where polling takes place in the first phase and on 19.10.2011 in the areas where polling takes place in the second phase.

In continuation with, the TN Circle Secretary (AIPEU Gr.’C’) Mr.J.Ramamurthy has written to the Chief Postmaster General of Tamilnadu Circle, request to declare holiday for postal employees on the respective polling days for the local body elections in Tamilnadu.
