All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers
All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of January 2008 remained stationary at 134 (one hundred and thirty four).
During January 2008, the index recorded an increase of 3 points each in Bhilai, Bangalore, Puducherry, Warrangal, Salem and Srinagar centres, 2 points in 10 centre and 1 point in 17 centres. The index decreased by 5 points in Tripura centre, 3 points in 4 centres, 2 points in 5 centres and 1 point in 15 centres while in the remaining 20 centres the index remained stationary.
The increase in indices of most of the centers during January, 2008 is mainly because of increase in House Rent Index, while in additon that of 3 points in Bhilai centre is due to Rice, in Bangalore centre due to Dairy Milk, in Puducherry centre due to Fish Fresh, Vegetable and Fruit items and Bus fare, in Warangal cente due to Rice and Goat Meat, in Salem centre due to Rice, Arhar Dal, Groundnut Oil, Goat Meat and Vegetable items, in Srinagar centre due to Rice, Wheat Atta and Mustard Oil. The decrease of indices in most of the centers is due to decrease in the prices of Vegetable items and that of 5 points in Tripura centre is also due to Rice, Wheat Atta, Onion and Chillies Dry.

The point to point rate of inflation, during January 2008 based on the CPI-IW on base 2001=100 has remained constant at the previous month’s level of 5.51%.
