All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of May, 2008 increased by 1 point and stood at 139 (one hundred and thirtynine).
During May, 2008, the index recorded maximum increase of 7 points in Goa centre, 3 points each in Vijaywada, Godavarikhani, Rourkela and Tiruchirapally centres, 2 points in 7 centres and 1 point in 21 centres. The index decreased by 2 points each in Jaipur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Lucknow centres and decreased by 1 point in 13 centres while in the remaining 28 centres the index remained stationary.
The maximum increase of 7 points in Goa centre is mainly due to increase in the prices of Rice, Fish Fresh, Poultry, Goat Meat, Snack Saltish and Saree (Synthetic). The increase of 3 points in Vijaywada is due to Rice, Poultry, Milk Buffalo and Snack Saltish; in Godavarikhani centre it is due to Rice, Poultry, Milk Buffalo, Chillies Green and Fruits; in Rourkela it is due to Fish Fresh, Onion, Potato, Tomato, Saree (Cotton/Synthetic) and Chappals; in Tiruchirapally it is due to Rice, Poultry and Eggs. The decrease of 2 points each in Jaipur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Lucknow centres is mainly due to decrease in the prices of Edible Oils and Vegetables.

The point to point rate of inflation for the month of May, 2008 is 7.75% as compared to 7.81% in April, 2008.
