Employees protest, work comes to halt on NH
Chandigarh, Feb 7 (PTI) The work on six-laning of the Jalandhar-Panipat National Highway has been suspended on a stretch of some 15-km at Ludhiana following registeration of a case against a worker after the death of a boy who fell into a manhole.
A case of criminal negligence was registered against an employee of infrastructure major Soma Enterprises, which is executing the project, after the boy fell into a manhole and died last week.
Employees of the Soma Enterprises have refused to work in protest against registration of the case against a safety engineer.
The suspension of work had led to chaos on roads as the highway is the passage to Jammu and Kashmir, parts of HP and several areas in Punjab, including Amritsar and Pathankot.
The suspension of work on a stretch of some 15 kms of the National Highway 1 at Ludhiana has added to woes of the commuters.
