7,63,588 Candidates Appear for the Village Administrative Officer Selection Exams
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) periodically conducts selection tests and interviews to fill up the vacancies in various state departments. On March 17, this year, TNPSC issued call-for notifications for 2,342 Village Administrative Officers (VAO) posts that were vacant all over the state. 243 centres were chosen all over Tamil Nadu and examinations were conducted in 3628 examination halls.
A mere qualification of Class X is sufficient to appear for these posts. But, in the examinations that were held yesterday, a majority of candidates were PG degree holders and engineers.
At a number of centres, women candidates had come with their children to write the exams. A total 10,08,662 applications were received for the posts, of which 7,63,588 candidates wrote the exams. 2,46,250 failed to turn up for the written tests. 75% of the candidates who had applied for the posts had attempted the written tests.
More than 46,000 candidates wrote the test in Chennai city alone.
